Your home should be your sanctuary and it doesn’t have to be a mansion! As a matter of fact, I live in a little beach studio. However, I have found that incorporating flowers, candles, essential oils and a neat little working area has helped me improve my overall health as well as not having any electronics around my bed. Switching to more natural cleaning products as well as keeping my kitchen stocked with healthy foods and making a small space for my home gym equipment has helped me maintain my health and fitness goals while keeping up with a busy work schedule.
For A Greener (and Less Cluttered) Home
Enroll on online statement and get off junk mail lists to keep unwanted paper statements and advertisement statements to a minimum.
Leave Your Shoes at The Door
This is a simple way to avoid tracking in any residue from your shoes.
Switch to LED or CFL Lights
Cut utility costs and help the environment by switching to LED or CFL bulbs.
Collect Rain Water & Use on Plants
Great way to help conserve water and well as water your plants.
For A More Relaxing Home
Noting can get in the way of your health and fitness goals more than unwanted stress or a spike cortisol. In a world where we are go-go and hooked to our digital appliances, we rarely get the rest and relaxation that we need to hit our health goals. Some great and inexpensive ways to add a nice touch of tranquility to your household.
Ferns & Succulents
Ferns and succulents make for great in-door plants and require little maintenance.
Pick Up Weekly Flowers
I will be the first one to admit that I am on a budget. Fortunately Trader Joe’s always has some great flowers for under $10. They add a nice touch.
Essential Oils & Candles
I was able to score a diffuser for under $20 on Amazon and it works great. I usually alternate between lavender (for relaxation) and melaleuca oil (for air purification). And well because I love candles, I like to light one when relaxing.
Wide Open Spaces
Now this is no easy feat if you live in a tight living corridor. But counters clear and the working area free of clutter well not only be more aesthetically pleasing but provide for a more relaxing and efficient work space.
Kitchen & Home Gym
Let me make this short, sweet and to the point. If you keep your kitchen stalked with healthy food and have a few pieces of workout equipment that you will actually use, the only excuse is that you didn’t have time to make it to the gym but thats ok because you can get your workout in while watching your favorite nightly program.
If you aren’t getting adequate sleep or not allowing your body to properly recover you truly won’t see the gains or goals you are working toward. Yes, believe it or not less is more. The bedroom should be electronic free too! That means don’t bring your laptop or phone into bed with you. Hard I know, but this will help you in the long-run and truly get the rest you and your body deserve and love!
I really wish I could tell you, I have become the guru of homemade cleaning products, but I have NOT. I have been incorporating cleaning products from Method and 7 Generation into my cleaning routine and have been very happy with the outcome.
